YOP Update

My main focus right now is on finishing the Frilly Dress and it is taking forever.  When I first started it I was trying to plow right through it fast to get it to the baby it is for but as the the bottom of the dress expanded each round I lost steam, (not to mention the frustration of figuring out the mistakes in the pattern).  I am keeping my notes for fixes to errors row by row in Ravelry if anyone else wants to make this dress. Anyway, I actually took a long break from the dress to make some cotton washcloths since I was really burned out.  Now I really need to finish it because baby girl is getting big!

I'm following all the directions for the size 6-9 months, including for yarn weight but when I put it on the hanger the weight of the dress really pulls on the straps.  I'm a little concerned about the straps being too long and her little baby boobies will be spilling all out and stuff.  I'm sure she's not that kinda girl. I may have to adjust them after I'm finished with the rest.  I was hoping for this dress to be a surprise but I may have to ask them to measure her.  I currently have about 1.5 rounds to go and then some trim of some sort.  I think I will have to reprint the last page of the pattern since Buddy the beagle baby grabbed it and it is in really bad shape now.  My main concern was keeping him away from the dress!  I think I would have cried if he got it and snagged it. The yarn is a thinner size 3 weight and his sharp little teeth would probably cut right through it.  That is why I haven't made as much progress on it as I would have otherwise.  I am too nervous to take it out unless he is in his crate.  My fibromyalgia has been flaring up too and so all told I didn't make much progress this week.

I did get Buddy the Beagle Baby a new squeaky ball which he loves though. I'm hoping that will keep him busy so I can crochet more!

I hope everyone is having fun working on their projects.  The most important thing to remember is to have fun with your hobbies and not let it become "work."

    1. Thank you. I love and really want to get it finished. My fibromyalgia flares up when it rains and it has been raining a lot lately, including today actually. My husband got Buddy a raw hide bone though so I think I'll work on the dress while he is tied up with that.

  2. See the Craft Yarn Council's body measurements chart so you get an idea of that measurement. After you adjust, maybe you can handsew ribbon to keep them from stretching in the future? This dress is so cute with how it's a-line and fans out.

    1. Oh thank you, I didn't think of that. I'll look up their website. I was thinking about adding a strip of fabric but Ribbon is a much better and easier idea. Thanks for the help!

  4. That dress is super cute. Good for you for carrying on despite errors in the pattern. That is so annoying isn't it.
Your beagle baby is far too cute. I wouldn't get any crafting done with him around because I would just want to cuddle him!

    1. Thanks for the comment on the dress. I do hate errors in patterns but what annoys me is this is a corrected version. They definitely missed some. Another one of my projects on my list, the Marcelle Afghan kit, is even worse though. I have started it and frogged it at least 3 times because of errors in the pattern. I try what I think would work and then realize it changes every row after and makes a mess of things. I found someone on facebook that has made it though and she said she would help me get through it. I am curious what she did. Oh and you wouldn't get much cuddling in with Buddy the Beagle Baby with his teeth like thread rippers. He is a biter and we are still working on breaking him of that. He is just 3 months old right now but I have enough holes in me already.

    1. Oh I'm sorry to hear you have that too. It has been raining often here and I flare up every time and don't want to move. It has been raining today but I guess my will is stronger this time and I got up and about. I am really hoping to get that dress finished soon because I'm worried that the baby will outgrow it. That is why I chose the 6-9 months size so I would have more time to work on it. It is really pretty but a bit of a pain too.

    1. Thank you. I've talked to several people that gets so frazzled trying to make complicated things for everyone that they forget it is supposed to be fun.

  7. Stunning little dress. I have been in a similar situation with my now 20mth old grandson. Started making things for him and before I'd finished, he'd gone up a size or two. I do make lots for charity so ended up donating them. Love your little Beagle - what a cutie. xox

    1. Yup, I've done that a few times too but it is a shame the one you made it for doesn't get to use it. I usually like to get pictures back with the things I make in use. I would love to see the baby girl I'm making this for in this dress. I think this purple would look great with her skin tone.

  9. I have some "deadlines' for gifts myself right now and if it gets to stressful I just go buy a gift and give the handmade thing for Christmas but I know when it is a garment and they are growing you can't really do that. So, I make toys not fitted garments to avoid that stress. I do think the dress is a show stopper though and I can see why you wanted to make it. You could give it to them and then take measurements and adjust as needed and yet there would still be the initial "shock and awe" moment. I have a kitten and I am having the same problem and she can leap tall buildings in a single bound so nothing is off limits to her! Good luck and yes, I agree, have fun! It is an absolutely beautiful dress and lovely, heartfelt gift.

  10. The dress is just gorgeous and I'm pretty sure once it's off the hook you will fly at other projects. Sometimes until a project like that is done you can't concentrate on anything else.

  11. What a beautiful dress - I'm sure others will appreciate the work you have put in to putting it right. I agree with the ribbon idea, that will finish it perfectly.

  14. Buddy looks sooooooo cute! It'd be hard to say no to him, I'd imagine.

The dress is really pretty, but I can totally see what you mean about the rows getting tiresomely endless through the bottom frills! One idea might be to cut the straps and add to lengthen each side to make them shoulder ties - that way they could be tied to fit.

  15. The frilly dress is stunning. I completely understand the need for a break on a project. I feel like I've been working on the never ending granny square blanket. I'm sorry for your flare up. I hope it subsidies quickly. Puppy is adorable: )

  16. Buddy the Beagle Baby Bites Ball - lol, sounds like a great newspaper headline.
Gorgeous little dress. You have done well. Shame about the pattern mistakes. Hope all goes well with the strap amendments.
